It aims to increase spiritual and pastoral support in our Catholic communities for those with mental health challenges, their families and carers. The lead bishop for the Mental Health Project is Bishop Richard Moth.
The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales has established a Small Grants Fund for mental health projects to further encourage and inspire us as communities of understanding.
Here we have two prayers to bring to God our intentions for those with mental health needs, their families and carers. The first implores the intercession of St Dymphna - the patron saint of those with mental or nervous disorders or mental illness.
World Mental Health Day raises public awareness about mental health issues. The day promotes more open discussion of mental health needs and advances in prevention and treatment services for mental illness.
